Five of My Favorite Books about Dogs by Donna Winters

I’ve read some great dog titles over the years and share them here for dog lovers everywhere.

The first three titles are nonfiction by Dr. Stanley Coren, a professor of psychology at the University of British Columbia and a recognized expert on dog-human interaction.

The fourth title is a memoir of a beloved border collie, and the fifth title is fiction from a dog’s point of view.

Enjoy!

Here's what the book is about.
Suzanne—a mother with a long-held secret. Tony—a police officer with something to prove. Beth—a daughter with a storybook future. When all they love is lost, what's worth living for?
Suzanne Corbin and her daughter, Beth Harris, live a seemingly easy life. Suzanne has distanced herself from her past, replacing pain with fulfillment as a wife and mother, while Beth savors her husband’s love and anticipates the birth of their child. But all that is about to change.
Like a sandcastle buffeted by ocean waves, Suzanne’s façade crumbles when her perfect life is swept away. Tragedy strikes and police officer Tony Barnett intersects with the lives of both women as he tries to discover the truth. Left adrift and drowning in guilt long ignored, Suzanne spirals downward into paralyzing depression. Beth, dealing with her own grief, must face the challenge of forgiveness. Can these two women learn to trust each other again? Will they find the power of God’s grace in their lives?

Breathless by Dean R Koontz - a review

Submitted by SupAdmin on Thu, 01/24/2013 - 13:41

I just finished reading Breathless by Dean R. Koontz. I haven't read a Koontz book in years - but I'm glad I picked this one up. I have no idea why I've been away from his books for so long. As usual, Mr. Koontz's style and story are both top notch!

Breathless has masterfully interwoven subplots, the lives of strangers, all coming together to entangle purposefully in the end. I really enjoyed how detailed the character descriptions were in Breathless.

Another thing I greatly enjoyed about the book is the way that the author writes about animals. I can tell, from reading the book, that Mr. Koontz is an avid animal lover like myself. At first, when I picked up the book and started reading, I almost put it down again. I'm often afraid to read books with animals in them because, usually, the animal ends up being a sacrifice to move the plot along later in the book. The lovely descriptions of the Irish Wolfhound made me fall in love with him almost instantly, and I did not want anything (even if it is just fiction) to happen to him. I needn't have worried, however, because Mr. Koontz seems to love animals as much as I do, and his lovely fictional companions were all treated humanely.

If you love suspense and action - and animals - you won't want to miss reading Breathless.
